When one's life has been touched by the Master's hand this unleashes one's creative ability to serve and praise the Lord. That person who has been touched by God's grace will find that his or her talents become instruments of the Lord. In particular, those who have musical talent are led to new heights of creative, spiritual expression. What once was just musical talent becomes the means of bringing glory to God and of making Him known to others.
Twenty five years ago Harry and Aly Reinders experienced the saving touch of the Master's hand. They came to personal faith in God through His Son, Jesus Christ. For many years prior to that they had a background of using their considerable musical talents in many ways, both in their native Holland and in their adopted home in Canada. Not long after they came to faith in God, through Jesus Christ, He gave them a vision. He showed them how He would use those natural musical talents for His own glory. Over the past 25 years they have had an itinerant musical ministry. This has taken them to churches of various denominations in many different places. At diverse times the Lord has led them to center their musical ministry in one local church. At other times the Lord has kept them free from local church commitments to continue their itinerant ministry. During those years they both have continued to use their musical expertise as their livelihood. For over 25 years they have taught music and have been proprietors of their own music store in the suburban Halifax community of Timberlea. They are a couple who, as they say, love to "make music". The experience of Aly's sweet voice or mastery of the organ are a true joy. The experience of hearing Harry's fingers run across a piano keyboard playing a jazz composition or gospel music, and of his full range voice, are equally enjoyable. Such talent in the hands of the living God has been a blessing to many over the years.
Part of what makes music special is the creativity it inspires. Part of one's personal experience of knowing the living God is how He comes to us at special times and, by His touch, grants moments of deep inspiration. The combination of these two sources of inspiration - music itself and God's touch, is the fountain from which true Christian music arises. Harry Reinders has often had such experiences when he has felt compelled to write a piece of music. He has often said that God, by his Spirit, is the composer while he is just a human instrument. Having known Harry and Aly for over eight years, I have often heard them sing original compositions. The Experience of feeling the power and blessing of such original compositions leads me to heartily comment this new venture - a book of 22 original musical compositions.
